This month we have a competition for all fans of Scandi-Noir thrillers and the prize is a bundle of Dicte Crime Reporter (season 2 on DVD) and Valkyrien (season 1 on DVD). 794 minutes of tense Nordic drama to keep you glued to the screen. Settle down and enjoy.

Dicte Crime Reporter

Divorced crime reporter Dicte Svendsen (Iben Hjejle – High Fidelity) has returned with daughter Rose to her hometown of Aarhus, in Denmark’s region of Jutland, to start a new life after trying to escape the past.

In season two Dicte is contacted by her estranged father and a sudden tragic turn of events leads to her and police investigator John Wagner investigating a prostitution ring, diamond smuggling and a hit-and-run that all seem to be somehow linked. Throw in football hooliganism and match fixing to sado-masochism and murder, missing children and a mother’s lost love and you have a deadly mix, Dicte, the brash, quick witted reporter finds herself in the middle of. Not afraid to take risks or put her own life in danger, straying to the wrong side of the law or jeopardising every relationship in her life, Dicte will stop at nothing to uncover the truth.

Valkyrien

This brand new high-concept Scandi-noir thriller, set in Norway, will have you at the edge of your seat from start to finish.

Leading surgeon Doctor Ravn (Sven Nordin) is forbidden by hospital authorities to continue experimental research to save his terminally ill wife Vilma (Pia Halvorsen). Desperate to find a cure for her, he joins forces with corrupt civil defence worker and Doomsday prepper, Leif (Pål Sverre Valheim Hagen), who has widespread knowledge of the city’s underground shelters and secret passages, as well as significant connections with the Oslo underworld.

Together they build an illegal clinic in an old bomb shelter deep underground Valkyrien Square, Oslo. As Ravn continues his research to save his wife, he must also care for criminals who need to avoid the authorities. While the doctor believes he will find a miracle cure, Leif is convinced that the end of the world is nigh.

Valkyrien is an award-winning Norwegian drama and made its DVD debut from Acorn Media International following its run on C4 and Walter Presents.
