We’ve got a bit of a vampire theme going on, but this time it is not coastal California vampires, but home-grown British vampires we encounter.

Crucible of the Vampire is a modern British gothic chiller by Iain Ross-McNamee’s which had its world premiere at Cannes Film Festival and after earning rave reviews at other major festivals, the film is set to arrive in UK cinemas on 1 February 2019, followed by its release on 4 February 2019 in dual format DVD and Blu-ray and on digital platforms courtesy of Screenbound Entertainment.

London-Olios has one of these DVD/Blu-rays to give away to one of our readers.

Starring Neil Morrissey (Line of Duty, Men Behaving Badly), alongside newcomers Katie Goldfinch and Florence Cady, this modern vampire tale is a rooted in the classic British horror greats and the genre defining Hammer Horror films.

A young museum curator Isabelle (Katie Goldfinch) is sent to look at an ancient artefact, discovered in the basement of a stately home in Shropshire, to verify its authenticity. If it is, what she hopes it is, it would be a major discovery.

Isabelle finds herself welcomed into the sprawling manor house by a seemingly hospitable family – Karl (Larry Rew), his wife Evelyn (Babette Barat) and their beautiful, but slightly strange, daughter Scarlet (Florence Cady), but, like in all good thrillers, all is not what it seems, and she soon realises that a dark and terrifying secret hangs over them and that she is in mortal danger.

‘Such an engaging story that is both broodingly ethereal, visually eloquent and thoroughly enjoyable’

Starburst

‘There’s something of a retro Golden Age of Brit horror kick to Crucible of the Vampire…a joyous nostalgia trip’

Diabolique Magazine

‘Cady and Goldfinch deliver equally powerful central performances that hold  the film together and are crucial to Crucible of the Vampire’s success. And succeed the film certainly does’
