When I was a child and winters were still winters with lots of snow I loved to build igloos in our garden with my friends for us to play in. Walking into the ice cave of Grotto Outré at the launch last week reminded me of this, but of course our igloos were a lot smaller and did not have a bar serving hot cider punch or a DJ.
Grotto Outré is definitely for grown-ups. Enter through the curiously captivating Christmas tunnel that leads to the enchanted garden where Rebecca serves up boozy hot chocolate that keeps the chill at bay. Take a load off on the golden sofa and enjoy the sweet concoctions that come with a variety of different alcohol toppings (we tried amaretto with marshmallows and frangipani with whipped cream – both delicious) and or tickle the ivories on the piano and have a sing-song with your buddies or new found best friends.
Tuesdays to Fridays 1980’s Aspen will come to London and Grotto Outré will be for hire to host very special private or shared corporate Christmas parties inspired by www.aspenskiclub.co.uk. Take a trip back in time when neon onesies were the norm and everything was “rad” and “spread eagle” or request the presence of the outlandish Family of Outré, including Santa Claws, The Elf King, Christmas Cheer, The Ice Queen and The Kissmas Fairy, for a very different take on Christmas (www.grottooutre.com).
On Saturday nights come on down and party with some of the UK’s leading music brands/DJs taking up residence in the ice cave, including B.A.R.E. (Fabric) Housewives, Moustachio and Once Upon A Time.
On Sunday nights the mood shifts again with Christmas music favourites rocking the cave. ‘The Take That Experience’ (www.thetakethatexperience.co.uk) are appearing for a one-off performance. Definitely an occasion to wear your Christmas jumpers and sparkly antlers.
