It was on a chilly February evening we wandered down Brick Lane to visit The Sloane Bros. Frozen Yoghurt Co. parlour and try their wares, but luckily we both don’t mind eating ice cream, sorbets or frozen yoghurt in the middle of winter. It was refreshing not to have to join a long queue, as it is often the case in the summer, but even despite of the hour and the cold outside, there was a constant stream of customers coming in to get their FroYo fix.
We tried – and liked – all the frozen yoghurt flavours on offer; natural, banana, chocolate-hazelnut (I’m not a huge chocolate ice cream fan, but this was very nice!) and dulce de leche, all fat free; and the new tropical flavour (vegan and made with coconut, so not fat free, but definitely lactose free), we decided on having one medium sized pot of natural and one of dulce de leche frozen yoghurt.
After deciding on the FroYo flavours and the size of the portion we were faced with an even more difficult choice – which toppings to chose! There are so many choices and you can go as healthy or as naughty as you like. We had a little angel sitting on one shoulder whispering: “Fruit, go with the fruit!” and a little devil on the other one saying: “Biscuits, caramel popcorn, brownies, salted caramel sauce!” We listened to both.
The natural yoghurt we had with a rainbow of fruit, including strawberries, blueberries, mango, kiwi, pineapple and passion fruit. The dulce de leche flavoured frozen yoghurt was almost completely hidden under a mountain of jammie dodgers, bourbon biscuits, a raspberry brownie, popcorn and more. The one topping we did not have on either one was Marmite, which we were told some people love on their FroYo. Weird!
So next time you are in the area, treat yourself to one of The Sloane Bros. frozen desserts, you won’t regret it. They also have milk shakes on their menu and just started making crepes.
And if you want to be part of The Sloane Brothers, you are in luck, as they are crowdfunding at the moment to expand the brand and open more parlours around the UK (there is already another one in Nottingham). People who invest in the company receive special privileges including loads of discounted and free FroYo. Just visit their website for more information.
