If you can’t afford the air fare to Malaga or Seville, help is at hand as the aptly named Bernie Spain Gardens on London’s Southbank will be hosting Feria De Londres over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend. This free festival is a celebration of all things Andalusian and the perfect place for families and groups of all ages.
Feria de Londres is inspired by Southern Spain’s traditional Spring fairs, a celebration of Spanish cuisine, entertainment and Andalusian culture, celebrated in cities, towns and village up and down the region and which have been around for hundreds of years.
Expect delicious Spanish tapas, cocktails and tastings from official sponsors Tio Pepe, vibrant Flamenco dancing shows, interactive workshops and live Spanish music with entertainers dressed in their finest traditional costumes. Throughout the weekend, there will be the chance for every festival goer to get involved in the celebrations. From Sevillana dance lessons to flamenco rhythm workshops, to family-friendly activities, with activities for children in the form of face painting, hair styling, arts and crafts.
Colourful ‘casetas’ will line the bank of the Thames offering Spanish cuisine, from tasty tapas to seafood paella as well as Croquetas, Iberico Ham, Filled Tortillas and Pimientos de Padron and delicious sugar-coated churros. On hand will be Spanish food experts and producers offering special tastings. Wash it down with an ice cold Iberian beer or a glass of Spanish wine or the traditional Andalusian cocktail, a refreshing Tio Pepe Rebujito, consisting of Fino sherry, lemonade, fresh mint on the rocks – the perfect summer drink. The famous Tio Pepe, Spain’s favourite fino, will be hosting a series of sherry tasting masterclasses where guests will be able to explore the different styles of Spain’s most iconic wine.
Every festival is as much about food and drink as it is about song and dance. Watch Flamenco performances and listen to live bands on stage, capturing the essence of Spain through songful guitar, percussive cajon and rhythmic hand claps, and stay for the DJ set, that will get everyone on their feet dancing.
