The inspiration for the SS’19 collection by Hila and Kristian Aadnevik is the classic story of Alice in Wonderland. It is a world of mystery, sadness, innocence and bewilderment. The vision is taken from Alice’s journey to understand the feelings that compromise her identity.
“This collection is about holding onto the feeling of childlike innocence. Our lives on earth are the closest we can get to Paradise and the garden symbolizes the Garden of Eden; an idyllic space of beauty and virtue. Our heroines desire to attain this beauty is always challenged by the mad world of adolescence and growing up ”.
The beautiful garden setting of the show enhanced this mood – with vibrant colours against black and white, signifying the innocence of childhood against the mysterious world which lies ahead. The Aadnevik name for the show is embroidered with hearts and stars which is inspired by the book. Their signature leather craftsmanship is defined in the waistline of each piece and used in the elegant layering of the dresses, providing such delicate and exquisite detail throughout the garments. French lace intricately portrays the wild world of Alice in Wonderland, along with finely pleated tulle creating luxurious layers and a fine translucence throughout the gowns. In an imaginary world full of beautiful flowers, ornaments and animals; the gowns are adorned with shining metallics and paths of handcrafted beads and bugs throughout; emanating this feel of the dream that is Wonderland – a journey of loss, hope, madness and love.
