Mon Dieu! – Champagne + Fromage in Greenwich

Our idea of heaven, combining two of our favourite things: Champagne and cheese.

Champagne + Fromage recently opened their third French bistro in London’s Greenwich (the other two are in Covent Garden and Brixton Village Market) and invited us along to have a look and, more importantly, a taste.

We were treated to a lesson in all things Champagne by Maud Fierobe, founder of French Bubbles, one of the companies behind the venture, the other being Une Normande à Londres, importer of French cheeses, meats and preserves.

We loved the food: baby potatoes & Montbéliard sausage with a Canoillote dip, Auvergne tartine, a summer chacuterie selection and a very decadent fondant au chocolat with pieces of blue cheese – all teamed up with different Champagnes, all from small family owned vineyards. We also got to taste the Champagne Flight and Cheese Experience which matches up three very different Champagnes with cheeses that compliment the flavours. You’ll find this small, but perfectly formed slice of France a short walk from Cutty Sark DLR station on Church Street and right next to Greenwich Market. There are benches and bistro tables for eating al fresco at the side of the restaurant, away from the traffic, and four tables, made out of re-used Champagne bottle storage inside, with more seating along the bar and the windows.

This place is wonderful for a quick pick me up whilst wandering around Greenwich to see the sights or a light lunch or dinner after visiting the market. Or just a glass or two of Champagne – as if you need an excuse!
