The London Cabaret Club has finally, after almost three years of sold out pop up shows, found a permanent home in the iconic Bloomsbury Ballroom and has launched it with their new show ‘The Best of British Pop’, a celebration of British music through the last few decades.
We went along to their launch event and had a brilliant evening.
The night kicked off with hits from the Swinging 60’s to the 70’s (Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Queen and David Bowie), followed, after a short interval, with music from the 80’ to 90’s Britpop (Eurythmic, Bonnie Tyler, Elton John, Mel & Kim etc.), and finally songs from the last few years (Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson and more). As a special treat on the night we also saw a performance from up-and-coming girl band Stooshe.
The lightshow is fantastic, but the stars of the show are the singers and the live band, the dancers (modern, Latin, ballet), the athletes and the fire eaters. There is just so much talent on stage at any given time! And let’s not forget the elaborate costumes and choreography – the standard is very high in all respects.
Drink and food is also catered for and we tried a couple of the cocktails before the show started : Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go (coconut vodka, pineapple juice, cold brew coffee, coconut cream and allspice syrup) and So Macho (their take on a margarita. During the show we were served tapas style food on our table, with a glass of champagne and a lovely red wine. We had crab and avocado salad, garden pea and mint arancini, battered fillet of cod with triple fried chips and char-grilled 28 day dry aged beef sirloin. Dessert was warm dark chocolate cake and poached pear with thyme cream. The food was excellent and so was the service.
