Proud Chelsea Summer Exhibition – Image of an Icon
11th August – 18th September 2016
This summer Proud Chelsea will be exhibiting ‘Image of an Icon’, featuring photographs of some of the most iconic and influential faces from fashion, music, sport and film taken by the photographers at the heart of Proud Galleries’ 20 year history.
This unique collection, never before seen in one complete exhibition, will take visitors on a journey of the last few decades with photographs that represent all areas of popular culture. The exhibition includes a portrait of the world’s first supermodel, Twiggy, taken by Justin de Villeneuve and Jane Birkin and her lover Serge Gainsbourg photographed by her brother, Andrew Birkin. Michael Joseph’s pictures from the Rolling Stones’ Beggars Banquet shoot in 1968 and a never-before-seen shot of The Beatles filming Strawberry Fields Forever and Penny Lane by Mike Champion. David Montgomery’s iconic shots of Jimi Hendrix’s Electric Ladyland album cover and photographs from the set of cult classic Withnail & I captured by Murray Close. Portraits of icons such as David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix and Blondie will also be shown along with a collection of commemorative shots of the late, great Muhammad Ali by personal photographer, Michael Gaffney.
