Access All Areas: Photographs by Paul Harries at Proud Camden
9th March – 21st May 2017
Last week an exhibition of Harries’ iconic collection of rock legends from over two extraordinary decades opened in Proud Camden, showcasing his distinctive portfolio of celebrated icons including Nirvana, Slash, Rammstein, Metallica, Slipknot, Lemmy, Green Day, Blink 182 and Muse, from the 1990’s to the present day. Intimate portraits mingle with explosive stage performances, informal band photographs with highly styled photos of the artists.
Harries says: “I was always hugely interested in music and because I couldn’t sing or play any instrument, photographing the bands was the perfect way to be involved.” He was lucky enough to turn his hobby into a profession when he was introduced by a friend to Kerrang! Magazine who he has been working for as a rock photographer since 1989.
Harries’ photos are unique, theatrical, dynamic and full of energy, whether they are taken on stage, backstage or in a studio. The exhibition is bursting with testosterone; there are a handful of woman artists featured (i.e. Garbage’s Shirley Manson, Amy Lee from Evanescence), but on the whole there is little room for the female of the species. This one is all about the guys of rock.
