Endless presents Beaut at The Exhibitionist Hotel
until September 30th 2017
For guests arriving to check into The Exhibitionist Hotel in South Kensington last Wednesday, there was a surprise in store. Not your conventional London hotel at any time, on Wednesday the whole of the ground floor, including the reception and bar, was taken over by the preview party for London based artist, and sometimes Gilbert & George collaborator, Endless’ new solo show Beaut. The artist arrived in style with two Chapel Girls, his identity protected by a bandana, posing for photos and signing posters for his admirers.
You have probably seen his stencils and murals around town adorning walls around London. They are the ones poking fun at big consumer brands. In this exhibition, showcases canvasses, sculptures as well as his trademark stencil art, Endless focuses more on the ties between brand advertising and our perception of beauty than his usual brand vandalism. Don’t forget to take the lift up to the 3rd floor where he has transformed a whole corridor with black and gold stencils of fashion icons Cara Delevingne, Naomi Campbell and Karl Lagerfeld; and check out the double-height mural in the staircase of the Hotel lobby depicting Queen Elizabeth II draped in a gold Louis Vuitton cape. Another highlight of the exhibition is a portrait of Rita Ora that Endless created in aid of Breast Cancer Now.
“The exhibition is a shout-out to the success of Western consumer brands. We once lived in a world where perception of beauty, culture and style changed ever 100 miles you travelled. But brands’ aggressive advertising is fast influencing change, convincing us to ditch our rich and unique ideologies in favour of their own. Soon, the way we look, feel and think will be driven entirely by brands, which are working harder and smarter towards taking over our lives. “
This exhibition is supported by Graffik Gallery of Portobello Road, London and is open to the public free of charge until September 30th
