The Heathcote and Star – A New Star For Leytonstone

Just over a year ago Leyton welcomed a new pub, The Leyton Star, and now neighbouring Leytonstone has its own star, the newly opened The Heathcote and Star.

Like all of Rob Star’s pubs in the small but very successful Electric Stars Pubs chain (there are now five pubs in North and East London) The Heathcoat and Star is a place for the local community, and everybody is being made welcome with an extensive drinks menu of local London products, fantastic food, cool vibes and a variety of entertainment. On the site of the old Heathcote Arms pub-goers can now find a beautifully refurbished pub that is so much more than just a boozer.

“We are really excited to be opening our 2nd pub in Waltham Forest, it’s an amazing site with loads of history, which was in danger of being lost to redevelopment. It will be the biggest site in the group and we are working with Kai design to return it to it’s former glory and give the residents of Leytonstone a local that they can enjoy for years to come.” – Rob Star, Director

The first thing you notice about The Heathcote and Star is that it is big, really big, but warm and welcoming at the same time. The main bar is spacious with plenty of seating and a cosy fire place. The large games room features two pool tables and two table-tennis tables and the most amazing zodiac inspired ceiling. The pub’s terrace and garden is vast – I can’t wait for the summer (though you can use it any time – there are heaters and a fire pit for the cooler months)! It also features a lovely private room, which can be hired for parties, but the idea is to use also for community groups during the day, from book groups to knitting circles.

The Star pubs are known for hosting award-winning quiz nights, often featured in ‘top pub quizzes in London’ roundups, so come along on a Tuesday to take part at The Heathcote and Star. It’s a shame I live so far away from Leytonstone, because I love quizzes!

The pub will also be the perfect spot to kick-start the weekend, with DJ nights on both Fridays and Saturdays.

The crew from We Serve Humans has taken over the kitchen at The Heathcote and Star to rustle up the ultimate street food in the ‘Low and Slow’ style of cooking – with plenty of choices for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans.  I can personally vouch for the Cowboy Beans, a 5 bean chilli served with rice and sour beans; Buttermilk Fried Chicken Thighs with kimchi, gojuchang mayo and bacon; the Stoner Wings with a special spicy E11 BBQ sauce; their signature Chairman Burger and the new Heathcote Burger which comes with a hamburger patty and a layer of smoky pulled pork. If you really love burgers, you’ll be here every Monday for the 2 for £12 deal; it’s worth it.

And, of course, there will be an amazing Sunday roast cooked for you on those Sundays when you just can’t face the stove or oven at home.

If you like your cocktails, you’ll love the 2for1 offers every Thursdays.

And if you live locally make sure to sign up for one of the infamous Star Loyalty cards which provides customers with special deals throughout the week, the month, the year; including the 20% off on Workers Wednesdays.
