I love Girlfriends. Why? Well, let’s see.

• It features three of my favourite actresses Phyllis Logan, Miranda Richardson and Zoë Wanamaker and an equally great supporting cast including Anthony Head, Daisy Head, Chris Fountain, Philip Cumbus, Matthew Lewis, Adrian Rawlins Wendy Craig and Dave Hill.
• It is by award-winning writer, director and actress Kate Mellor.
• It is funny and engaging, sad and thought provoking, touching and entertaining, powerful and hilarious and always true to life.
• It reminds me of my own friendships that I have had for more than 40 or even 50 years and the fact that there are women (and men) out there, that will be my friends till the day that I die, no matter what happens and how much time has passed.

Girlfriends follows the lives of three very different women, life-long friends Linda, Sue and Gail, facing the many obstacles that life has thrown at them; from bereavement, divorce and family problems, to age discrimination and health issues, but the one thing that holds them together is their strong bond.

When Linda’s (Phyllis Logan) husband Micky vanishes from a cruise ship on their wedding anniversary, she suddenly finds herself on her own for the first time in nearly 30 years. She turns to Gail (Zoë Wanamaker) and Sue (Miranda Richardson), for support, but they all face their own problems.

Following its run on ITV, this powerful series is set for DVD release courtesy of Acorn Media International.

The six-part series arrives as a two-disc DVD set on 26 February 2018.
