Great TV Box Sets on DVD for Christmas 2018

Only five weeks until Christmas! How is your Christmas shopping going?

To make it a bit easier for you, here’s a selection of some of the latest DVD box sets from Acorn Media – a mix of drama and comedy, classics and brand new. If you like somebody who likes to binge watch, these are perfect, and, unlike a download, these can be wrapped, put under the tree and enjoyed over and over again.

1. Line Of Duty Series 1-4 DVD £44.99rrp

Versailles, 1667. 11. The Bletchley Circle Series One & Two DVD £24.99rrp

A group of female World War II codebreakers attempt to utilise their skills in their post-war lives. 2018 has seen a Bletchley Circle reboot as our heroines travel to San Francisco for more sleuthing but this is where it all began. When Susan (Anna Maxwell Martin) reads about a serial killer who has been luring young women to their deaths, she enlists her former Bletchley Park colleagues to assist her find the murderer. In the second series a Bletchley Park graduate is imprisoned under a murder charge. 12. The Brokenwood Mysteries Series 1-4 DVD £49.99rrp

Consistently one of the best loved and best-selling sitcoms ever made. Tom and Barbara Good give up the rat race and start living a life of self-sufficiency in the suburbs, complete with chicken and pigs in their garden (to the shock to their very proper neighbour Margo Leadbetter and her long-suffering husband Jerry)– featuring every episode along with the 1977 Christmas Special, and the 1978 Royal Command Performance.

17. A Place To Call Home Series 1-5 DVD £44.99rrp

A Place to Call Home is a sweeping romantic drama set in 1950s rural Australia following the lives of Nurse Sarah Adams and the Blighs, a wealthy and complicated Pastoralist family living in Inverness, New South Wales where sex, death and secrets are never far below the surface. Marta Dusseldorp (Jack Irish) leads the cast as Sarah Adams, a woman with a mysterious past who has returned to Australia after 20 years abroad.

18. Inspector Montalbano Series 1-8 DVD £99.99rrp

Drawing on the novels of acclaimed Italian author Andrea Camilleri, Luca Zingaretti as Inspector Montalbano destabilised the dark world of Nordic Noir, introducing viewers to a Mediterranean detective with all the fine wine, dining and detective work that that implies. This collectable collection is a must-have and a must-watch including, as it does, a full 26 feature-length tales.

19. Grantchester Series 1-3 DVD £39.99rrp

It’s 1953 and Sidney Chambers (James Norton), is vicar of Grantchester, a village just outside Cambridge. Sidney’s is a quiet life. Or at least, it has been – right up until the moment that murder comes his way. In Series One Sidney is pushed in the dangerous world of lies, betrayal and murder and quickly finds that he excels in his new life. This DVD set includes all three series and the 2016 Christmas Special as well as a host of bonus features.

20. The Complete Foyle’s War DVD £129.99rrp

With 28 feature-length films adding up to over 45 hours on 17 discs, this is the complete Foyle’s War featuring every episode ever made. Michael Kitchen is Detective Chief Superintendent Foyle, a hardworking, policeman in Hastings during the Second World War.
