Quaglino’s, itself an iconic institution, has launched Q Legends, a programme of summer events paying homage to iconic stars from stage and screen. Running until 31st August, Q Legends will bring a mix of entertainment from live music to movies to the beloved Mayfair restaurant and bar.
For those of you who have never been to Quaglino’s, it is one of the most beautiful and stunning restaurants in London. Its style and glamour is legendary and it has been frequented by royalty, movie and music stars, famous writers and other celebrities since it first opened its doors in 1929. It has reinvented itself a few times over the last decades, but it is definitely still a jewel in the crown of London restaurants and venues.
We went along to Quaglino’s elegant Mezzanine Bar for the glittering official opening party for Q Legends, hosted by Henry Conway, to hear all about the events, try the delicious cocktails and listen to a special set by The Commitments.
The line-up of Q Legends includes performances by Alexander O’Neal, George McCrae and Rose Royce’s Gwen Dickey, plus a special tribute performance to the legendary Whitney Houston.
American soul and R&B singer Alexander O’Neal will be performing a special live set on Thurs 27th July. His career spans thirty years during which he has achieved success with songs like ‘Criticize’ and several other top ten hits, as well as a triple platinum album.
Movie classics The Godfather, La La Land and Goodfellas will be screened as part of a deluxe menu and movie evening. Guest can sit back and relax with wireless headphones and watch the movie whilst being served a bespoke sharing menu inspired by each film alongside fizz and wine.
The entertainment also includes a murder mystery event inspired by legendary detective Poirot on Wed 23rd August. Fans of whodunnits can join the immersive theatre production and, whilst solving clues, enjoy a decadent three course meal alongside Quaglino’s finest cocktails.
Speaking of cocktails, Quaglino’s legendary mixologists have created a special menu of luxurious cocktails that celebrates the icons of past and present and Quaglino’s heritage for the event. It includes The Martinez, named after ‘The Grand Martinez Hotel’ where founder Giovanni Quaglino first worked as a maître d’hôtel. The Grand Opening, commemorating the opening of the restaurant in 1929; The Hutch, a tribute to Leslie ‘Hutch’ Hutchinson, one of the most popular cabaret entertainers of the twentieth century who regularly performed at Quaglino’s and not forgetting the star of the menu, The Time Machine.
All cocktails are priced a very reasonable £12.75.
A selection of wine and champagne inspired by iconic stars across the decades is also being served as part of the Q Legends experience.
The grand finale of the Summer Series is the performance of two iconic artists that will see disco fans dancing on the tables on Thursday 31st August. George McCrae, the man behind the classic ‘Miami Sound’ and one of the biggest selling pop records in history – Rock Your Baby will be joined by Rose Royce’s Gwen Dickie, queen of the 70’s classics Wish Upon a Star, Car Wash and Love Don’t Live Here Anymore.
